Hands that Serve are Holier than Lips that Pray.

This is our Motto in the Mission. Meals-on-Wheels is a core activity of the Mission. Every Sunday afternoon, the Mission Crew drive up to our weekly spots in Kuala Lumpur, KL Sentral Monorail, Brickfields, Pudu Raya and Masjid India, to distribute free packed meals and drinks to all passers-by, regardless of whether they are rich or poor. Everyone receives a free meal from Guru Nanak’s Kitchen. For the poor, it is a life support. For the others, it is our way of being ambassadors for our religion, educating the world about our religion, as generous and compassionate.
This mission is also called ‘Mission Sacha Saudha’, the mission launched by Baba Guru Nanak with the Rupees 20 that His father had given Him to start a business.
With the sanggat’s funding, we are looking to promote this as a daily seva. We are now praying for Guruji to bless us with a small Seva House’ somewhere where we can prepare all the meals on site and also use it as a meditation centre in the evening, open to all races and religions who want to receive the blessings of Baba Guru Nanak.
Meals on wheels.
On the 8th of March 2009, this fascinating idea was put into action by SIKHS WITH A MISSION.
What is Meals on wheels? And what is so extraordinary about it? Well, its about driving out from our Mission Centre and delivering the meals at chosen locations around KL. The meals are offered to anyone and everyone, no matter what religion, race or nationality. We choose locations where they are many hungry people. This means that they may have some belongings but they may not be earning enough to afford healthy meals daily. Meals-on-Wheels also provides food for their families.
It is our request that anyone who may be able to contribute
to this activity, please do. You may just prepare any sort of simple vegetarian meal, and individually pack it up. The amount you wish to donate is of your choice. Home cooked food is encouraged as it will be the healthiest and will contain a personal touch that cannot be compared. We urge members of the community to participate as often as possible. We carry out this activity every Sunday, we will pick up meal donations from Gurdwara Sahib PJ on Sundays between 3.00pm and 3.30pm. We appreciate the response that we have been getting so far, however we believe that the response could be a whole lot better.
Now about our experience, at first many people were reluctant to accept our meals, perhaps it was because we were new or they just weren’t used to accepting free meals. However once we explained to them that we were handing out chappaties and other food as goodwill and charity, they accepted it and thanked us. Many of the recipients were workers who are not paid well and have families, one person came up to us and asked if he could take an extra meal home for his daughter, we gladly gave it to him, and some of us ventured into the back alleys and found some people just sitting around with nowhere to go and no money for food. They were delighted when they saw us coming, and one of them said ‘Thank you very much my friends’. Nothing beats the feeling of putting a smile on another person’s face.
These are people who do not have a home, let alone a meal. Some of them are jobless and just wonder the streets trying to find something to do. Imagine we have the opportunity to help these people in a very important way, so we should do our best. ‘If you want to be happy, serve others. Together let us realize One God, One World and One Humanity.
